Born in 1950 from a small agricultural company, today it becomes the Residence for travelers visiting Matera and its wonders.
History of the Madonna delle Vergini Residence Matera
It was the 1950s when my grandfather slowly set up a small farm, purchasing small plots of land and a rural building where my father was also born.
Local durum wheat was sown, some vegetables were planted and olives were harvested to turn them into oil.
A few years later, my grandfather built a large enclosure around the building for use as a chicken coop, pig and lamb farm, and finally also a dovecote.
To close the supply chain, he opened a butcher’s shop in the center where my uncle Giuseppe, the eldest son, sold everything my grandfather produced.
My father also spent his childhood on the farm, at least until large-scale distribution made both of them change jobs.
With the death of my grandfather, the farm ceased to exist and the almost century-old building was showing signs of deterioration, also due to the earthquake of 11/23/1980.
Only three years ago my father decided to rebuild everything, obviously in a modern way, to let us relive the atmosphere of those times.
The brand new structure (2023) born on the ashes of the old farm was built mainly with materials typical of the surrounding areas, such as the Trani stone flooring, the Murge rock stone cladding, and the external floor in Matera calcarenite.
The structure offers ample parking, electric car charging, and large relaxation areas immersed in the nature of the Murgia Matera park.
The apartment is fully furnished and functional for all needs. The kitchen, with a large panoramic window, is adjacent to a veranda equipped with a pizza oven, a large living room divides the sleeping area, and is composed of two large symmetrical French windows that allow a glimpse of the apartment from north to south.
Both bedrooms, one double, the other with two single beds, have French windows leading onto another small veranda, and are equipped with TV and wifi. Finally, a large bathroom, equipped with a hydromassage tub and shower with the possibility of chromo therapy.
The apartment is also equipped with floor-level air conditioning that can be adjusted zone by zone with wall thermostats. Obviously everything is on one level, without architectural barriers.
